24 was a TV series that ran from 2001 to 2010, starring Kiefer Sutherland (1966- ). On November 6, 2001 the first episode of 24 was first broadcast. Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is playing chess with his daughter, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert). 48 Hours is a CBS TV news magazine program. On December 1, 2007, an episode called "Capture the Queen" appeared on 48 Hours. "Brooke Henson" told friends that she was a professional chess player. Acapulco H.E.A.T. was a TV series that ran from 1993 to 1999. On September 28, 1993, the first episode of Acapulco H.E.A.T., called "Code Name: Checkmate" aired. The Hemisphere Emergency Action Team (HEAT) guards a former KGB agent and chess master named Andre Sokol (James Booth) attending a chess match. One of the HEAT members is Ashley Connington (Catherine Oxenberg), who happens to be a woman grandmaster. A grandmaster chess tournament takes place in Caracas and it seems a few chessplayers are cheating by wearing an earpiece and getting the moves from a supercomputer. Adaptatsiya (Adaption) was a Russian TV series that ran in 2017. There are several chess scenes in the episodes.

The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu, starring Glen Gordon, was a TV series on NBC in 1956. It had Fu Manchu playing chess at the beginning of the show with Sir Denis Nayland Smith (Lester Matthews). The narrator says, "Black and white. Life and death. Good and evil. Two sides of a chess game. Two forces of the universe, one magnificent, the other sinister. It is said the Devil plays for men's souls. So does Dr. Fu Manchu, Satan himself, evil incarnate." At the end of each episode, Fu Manchu would be seen breaking a black chess piece as the closing credits rolled. The board was set up wrong. The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet was a TV series from 1952 to 1966 on ABC. On December 16, 1964, an episode (Season 13, Episode 14) called "Chess Set" aired. Ozzie Nelson (1906-1975) gets a large-scale wooden chess set and board in the mail. He ordered a chess set, but the fine print neglected to state the size of the set. Ozzie discovers a neighborhood kid named Kelly (Kelly Corcoran) with a talent for chess. The Adventures of Tintin was an animated TV series from 1991 to 1992 on HBO and other channels. On January 20, 1992, an episode (Season 2, Episode 3) called "The Broken Ear: Part 2" aired. Alexander Bonaparte Cuff (Donald Sumpter) is a lover of chess. Hercule Poirot (David Suchet) discuss a murder case over the chessboard with his friend, Captain Hastings (Hugh Frazier). On February 21, 1993, an episode (Season 5, Episode 6) called "The Chocolate Box" on Agatha Christie's Poirot aired. Butler Francois (Preston Lockwood) plays chess with a lady friend at an outdoor cafe. Other surrounding tables have chess sets. On October 31, 1996, an episode (Season 6, Episode 4) called "Dumb Witness" on Agatha Christie's Poirot aired. Aleis (Tobias Saunders) teaches his sister, Katya (Layla Harrison) how to move a knight on a chessboard. On December 26, 2003, an episode (Season 9, Episode 2) called "Sad Express" aired. There is a chess scene. On July 25, 2010, an episode (Season 11, Episode 4) called "Appointment with Death" aired. There was a chess scene and Steinitz was mentioned. On July 27, 2014, an episode (Season 13, Episode 2) called "The Big Four." A Russian grandmaster dies mysteriously during an international chess match. The case is related to a political intrigue involving the Peace Party and its leaders, Madame Olivier and Abe Ryland. Poirot investigates with his old friends Hastings, Japp and Lemon, helped by a reporter and a minor actress, but the quartet must soon fight a dangerous battle with the Big Four, a secret society manipulating for their own personal chess game a great number of international celebrities. Alfred Hitchcock Presents was a TV anthology series hosted and produced by Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980). The series ran from 1955 to 1962. On April 29, 1956, an episode (Season 1, Episode 31) called "The Gentleman from America" aired. This episode had a chess scene with several men playing chess at a London gentlemen's club. On May 12, 1957, an episode (Season 2, Episode 33) called "A Man Greatly Beloved" aired. There is a chess scene with a young girl, Hildegarde Fell (played by Evelyn Rudie), playing chess (she has been playing for years) with crusty old Judge John Anderson (played by Cedric Hardwicke), but with mistakes (illegal chess moves). He gives check, and she next takes a piece and says mate. The story was by A.A. Milne, the creator of Winnie the Pooh. On November 9, 1958, an episode (Season 4, Episode 6) called "Design for Loving" aired. There is a scene with chess playing where the android duplicate Charles Brailing (Norman Lloyd) plays chess with Lydia Brailing (Marian Seldes). The story was by Ray Bradbury (1920-2012). On September 27, 1959, an episode (Season 5, Episode 1) called "Arthur" aired. Arthur Williams (Laurence Harvey) tells Sgt. John Theron (Patrick Macnee) that he will meet him at a pub for chess.

Alice in Wonderland was a made for TV movie that aired on CBS on December 9, 1985. It had a chess theme in Part 2. She hides behind a chessboard, knocking it over and knocking all the chess pieces on the floor.

Alice Through the Looking Glass was a made-for-TV movie which aired on November 6, 1966. It starts out with a Staunton chess set in the living room. Alice (Judy Rolin) is transported to a magical world through a large looking glass with the help of a living chess pieces, the Red King (Robert Coote). All in the Family was a TV series from 1971 to 1979. On December 14, 1974, an episode (Season 5, Episode 14) called "Mike's Friend" appeared on All in the Family. Mike's (Rob Reiner) college friend, Stuart Henderson (Greg Mullavey), comes over to the house to spend the evening playing chess with him. Amazing Stories was a TV series from 1985 to 1987 on NBC. On October 6, 1985, an episode (Season 1, Episode 2) called "The Main Attraction" aired. Shirley Crater (Lisa Jane Persky) wants to be accepted by the "in crowd" at her high school. She tries to get close to the football hero, but she is removed, chair and all, near the members of the chess club. Czernnobog (Peter Stormare) sings while playing chess. He plays chess with Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) and wins. He also is good at checkers.

American Gothic was a TV series that aired in 2016 on CBS. On July 27, 2016, an episode (Season 1, Episode 6) called "The Chess Players" aired.

American Horror Story is a TV series on FX, which began in 2011. On December 7, 2011, an episode (Season 1, Episode 10) called "Smoldering Children" aired. Tate Langdon (Evan Peters) finds Violet Harmon (Taissa Farmiga) in the attic waiting for him to play chess.

And the Sea Will Tell was a 2-part, four-hour TV mini-series that aired on CBS on February 24-25, 1991. In Part One, there is a scene with a chess set in the background. In Part Two, Bernie Leonard (Bill Dow) played chess with Mac Graham (James Brolin). Checkmate was said, but there was no checkmate at the end of the game.

Anger Management was a TV series which ran from 2012 to 2014. On June 13, 2013, an episode (Season 2, Episode 24) called "Charlie and His New Friend with Benefits" aired. Charlie Goodson (Charlie Sheen) plays chess with Jennifer Goodson (Shawnee Smith). Charlie says he never played chess before. The board is set up wrong.

Animaniacs was a TV series from 1993 to 1998. On October 7, 1993, an episode (Season 1, Episode 19) called "Meatballs or Consequences" aired. Arli$$ was a TV series from 1996 to 2002 on HBO. On June 25, 2000, and episode (Season 5, Episode 4) called "Comings and Goings" on Arli$$ was aired. Kirby Carlisle (Jim Turner) suggests Stanley Babson (Michael Boatman) have sex with an ugly woman as a "slumpbuster," after he suffers numerous setbacks in his chess game. In Season 7, Episode 9, called "End Game," a former lover returns to win back Rita Wu's (Sandra Oh) affection, while Arliss Michaels (Robert Wuhl) and Stanley lure a reclusive former chess champion back to the game.

Arthur is an animated TV series for children which began in 1996. On May 6, 2013, an episode (Season 16, Episode 6b) called "Brain's Chess Mess," aired on PBS. The episode starts with Brain who lost to a young girl nicknamed "Los Dedos" in a chess match. Los Dedos rubs her victory in Brain's face, calling him an "amateur" before leaving, which prompts Brain to form a Chess Club. Brain starts a chess club at school to improve his game. Among the members are Buster, Binky (who only joined for free ice cream), George, Fern, and Mrs. MacGrady. The Chess Club is a failure. Mrs. MacGrady is the only one of the Club who knows how to play, and she can't ignore her duties as the school's lunch lady. The others just fool around. Brain attempts to teach his classmates, but they don't pay attention. Rattles comes in after hearing the commotion and shows off his skills, easily beating Brain in a chess match. Astounded, Brain tries to persuade Rattles into joining the Chess Club, even offering him free ice cream and doing his homework for him, but Rattles refuses. Then Los Dedos arrives and insults both Brain and Rattles, before challenging Rattles to a chess match. Brain is convinced Los Dedos will never be beaten, but this prompts Rattles to change his mind about joining the Chess Club. He decides to teach Brain and the others how to play chess properly, in order to bring Los Dedos down a peg. With Rattles' help, Brain and his friends get better at chess. However, on the day of the chess tournament, Brain discovers that Rattles had gone sick with a stomach ache. With no choice, Brain plays against Los Dedos in his place, unaware that Rattles had snuck in during the match to watch, completely fine. As the Bell Rings is a TV series that began in 2007 on the Disney Channel. On July 12, 2008, an episode (Season 2, Episode 2) called "Chess for a Day," aired. Danny Neilson (Tony Oller) and Lexi Adams (Lindsey Black) play checkers.

B. L. Stryker was a TV series from 1989 to 1990, starring Burt Reynolds (1936-2018) as Buddy Lee Stryker. On March 27, 1989, an episode (Season 1, Episode 3) called "Blind Chess" appeared on B.L. Stryker. Harold Laiken III (Scott Plank) compares private investigations to double blind chess.

Babylon 5 was a TV series from 1994 to 1998. On November 27, 1995, an episode (Season 3, Episode 4) called "Passing Through Gethsamane" aired. Brother Theo (Louis Turenne) played chess with Captain John Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner) in the Zen Garden.

The Babysitter was a made-for-TV movie that appeared on The ABC Friday Night Movie on November 28, 1980. Dr. Lindqvist (John Hauseman) plays chess with Scotty (Ken Tiger). The board is set up wrong. Banacek was a TV series from 1972 to 1974 on NBC, starring George Peppard (1928-1994). On September 13, 1972, the first episode of Banacek, called "Let's Hear It for a Living Legend" was aired. It mentions the Fischer-Spassky world chess championship match, held in Iceland in 1972. Thomas Banacek (Peppard) is a gifted chess player throughout the series. His chauffer also plays chess. Banacek and British bookstore owner Felix Mulholland (Murray Matheson) are often shown playing chess.

Banshee was a TV series from 2013 to 2016. On January 25, 2013, an episode (Season 1, Episode 3) called "Meet the New Boss" aired. There is a chess scene with a man (Brian Stapf) playing chess. In 2013, an episode (Season 1, Episode 8) called "Kings and Pawns" aired. Igor "Mr. Rabbit" Rabitov (Ben Cross) and Olek (Christos Vasilpoulos) play chess. On March 15, 2013, an episode (Season 1, Episode 10) called "A Mixture of Madness" aired. There is a chess scene with chess played by a man (Brian Stapf). On October 3, 1973, an episode (Season 2, Episode 1) called "No Stone Unturned" aired. Felix and an Asian lady study various chess positions.

Batman was a TV series from 1966 to 1968 on ABC, starring Adam West (1928-2017) as Batman and Burt Ward (1945- ) as Robin. On February 16, 1966, an episode (Season 1, Episode 11) called "A Riddle a Day Keeps the Riddler Away" aired. Bruce Wayne (West) and Dick Grayson (Ward) play chess at the stately Wayne Manor. Bruce wins and Dick says, "Holy Reshevsky." The Riddler (Frank Gorshin) says he has reduced the king to a pawn in his plot to kill Batman. On October 12, 1966, an episode (Season 2, Episode 11) called "The Clock King's Crazy Crimes" on Batman aired. There is a chess scene in this episode. Gordon calls Batman while Bruce Wayne and Dick are playing chess. Dick makes a move and puts Bruce in check. When Alfred says the Bat-phone is ringing, Dick makes a second move in a row, which is illegal.

Becker was a TV series on CBS from 1998 to 2004. On November 30, 1998, an episode (Season 1, Episode 4) called "Tell Me Lies" aired. Mr. Schmalen (Noam Pitlik) plays chess with Dr. John Becker (Ted Danson). Becker comes in a waiting room and makes a move real fast, then leaves the room. Becker later gets checkmated. Benjamin Franklin was a TV mini-series that ran in 2002. In 2002, an episode (Season 1, Episode 3) of Benjamin Franklin called "The Chess Master" aired. The final 14 years of his life, nine of which were spent in Paris as ambassador to France from rebellious colonies across the sea. Benjamin Franklin's (Richard Easton) primary objective was to secure financial and military aid, far from an easy task. To this he brought the skills of a chess master, able to think many moves ahead in the game.

Benson was a TV series from 1979 to 1986. On February 7, 1980, an episode (Season 1, Episode 18) called "Checkmate" aired. The young passenger Charlie Evans (Robert Walker) walks in and asks to play. After defeating Spock in an "illogical approach" to the game, Kirk turns it over to Charlie. Spock, playing with the White pieces, beats Charlie in just a few moves. When Charlie gets angry, Spock leaves and then Charlie uses his powers to melt the white chess pieces. On September 22, 1966, in an episode (Season 1, Episode 3) on Star Trek, called "Where No Man Has Gone Before," Kirkand Spock play chess at the beginning of the show. They are playing in the briefing lounge when Spock announces to the captain that he's about to checkmate him on his next move. However, Kirk is preoccupied with awaiting the bridge's update on an unexplained Earth-vessel distress signal. The captain notes that Spock plays a very "irritating game of chess," to which Spock responds with "Irritating? Ah yes, one of your Earth emotions." Kirk then smiles and makes a move and checkmates Spock. This surprises Spock. "Certain you don't know what irritation is?" Kirk says wryly. Spock detected programming errors in the computer's databanks because of faulty chess moves made by the computer.
